The first picture was taken outdoors, the middle two were taken indoors with a flashlight (& a flash camera), and the last picture was taken indoors with no flash. If the lighting is diffuse (i.e. no strong light source), then the star won't appear.
Okay, so let's talk about the pendant. The stone is diopside, specifically black star diopside, because it's black and it's cut cabochon-style in such a way as to display a star when a light is shone on its surface. (The proper term for the star-like quality it exhibits is asterism.) It measures 18x13mm, and weighs about 17.40 carats. The pendant setting is sterling silver, and measures about 1 inch
from the top of the bail to the lower edge. The pendant's total weight
is about 0.2 oz.
I am including a sterling silver chain with it, cut from the chain you
see pictured. You may choose any length up to 20 inches long
(plus or minus a few millimeters--I have to begin and end on the bigger
links). The chain is a figure eight pattern
and the clasp will be a sterling silver lobster clasp like this one:
I made matching earrings with two smaller black star diopside cabochons.
The first two pictures were taken outdoors, and the third picture was taken indoors, with a flashlight & camera flash.
One of the cabochons measures 9x7mm & the other is 9x6.5mm. Their total weight is about 4.95 carats. I set them in sterling silver & suspended them from sterling silver post earrings. The total weight of the earrings is 0.1 oz.
