Bloodstone 8mm necklace + earrings

These bloodstone beads are predominately dark green, with very few of the red flecks which gives the stone its name.  The sterling silver beads are also about 8mm in diameter.  My vendor didn't say where the silver beads came from, but they look Thai to me.  (But don't hold me to that.)  I finished with a silver lobster clasp.  The necklace is about 18.25 inches long, and weighs 1.4 oz.

I made earrings to match.  The French hooks, headpins, and silver beads are all sterling silver.  The longest dangle is just under 2 inches, and the earrings weigh 0.3 oz.

Rainbow moonstone faceted 6mm round earrings

Lovely, lovely moonstone!  The outdoor picture (on the left) really shows the flashiness that gives rainbow moonstone its name.  Anyway, the total weight of the stones is about 1.5 carats (meaning that the earrings weigh less than 0.1 oz.), and I set them in sterling silver.

Amethyst faceted 4mm heart earrings

Amethysts always make me think of the Victorians, because it was highly prized by them, at least until the bottom fell out of the market when huge deposits were discovered in Brazil.  Oh well.  Anyway, these stones are little faceted hearts, measuring about 4mm per side, with a total carat weight of about 0.38.  I set them in sterling silver, and the total weight of the earrings is less than 0.1 oz.

Golden citrine faceted 6x4 oval earrings

The first picture was taken outdoors, in direct sunlight (and I am just now recovering from the sunburn, ouch!); the second was taken indoors, in indirect light.

Working with loose gems is more fun than a bag of hammers, y'all.  Seriously, this is way cool.  But you'd probably prefer that I shut up & tell you about these earrings.

The stones are citrine, which I've raved about before.  (The earrings look better in person than they do in the pictures, as I'm still learning the finer points of photographing such small objects.)  The stones are cut in a faceted 6x4mm oval, and are set in gold-filled settings.  The total weight is less than 0.1 oz.

Lapis nevada chip necklace

Lapis Nevada (also know as Nevada Lapis) is a new stone for me.  The soft greens and pinks remind me of spring.  It's a little scarce these days, as the mine where it is found is now closed, so I had to content myself with these chips.

I strung the chips with 4mm sterling silver beads, and finished with a silver lobster clasp.  The length of the necklace is 17 inches, with a weight of 1.1 oz.

Rainbow moonstone chip necklace

Here are some chips with flash!  The stone is rainbow moonstone--the rainbow moniker is due to the flashes of color (usually blue) that the stone exhibits.  Moonstone is a type of mineral called orthoclase.  (You can see my other moonstone necklaces here and here.)

I strung the chips with 2mm gold-filled beads, and finished with a gold-filled lobster clasp.  The necklace is 17 inches long and weighs 0.4 oz.

Carnelian tiny rice necklace + detachable pendant + earrings

I love carnelian, but I have a hard time deciding sometimes whether it's red or orange.  I'm putting this necklace in the red category.  (You can see my other carnelian necklaces here and here.)

Anyway, these little (4x6mm) rice-shaped beads demanded a pendant to go with them, but since I wanted to do the necklace with 3mm gold-filled beads and all of the carnelian pendants I saw were silver, I made the pendant myself.  The little gold heart in the center of the carnelian heart is vermeil, from Bali, and I used gold-filled wire to hang it & to form the bail (the pendant's loop).

The pendant is about 1 1/2 inches long, and weighs 0.1 oz.  The necklace is about 16 7/8 inches long, and weighs 0.3 oz.
I made matching earrings.  The triangles, headpins, and French hooks are all gold-filled.  The dangles are about 1 1/4 inches long, and the earrings weigh 0.1 oz.

Mother of pearl flat square bead-link necklace + earrings

What can I say about mother of pearl?  It's fabulous, it's silky, it's iridescent.  Gorgeous!

Anyway, these particular beads are flat 15mm squares.  I linked each with gold-filled wire, and finished with a vermeil hook clasp from India.

The length is 22.25 inches (can be worn shorter by hooking the clasp between two beads as shown), with a weight of 1.6 oz.

I made earrings to match.  The headpins and French hooks are gold-filled, and the dangles are about 3/4 in.  The earrings weigh 0.1oz.

Rhodonite diamond bead-link necklace + earrings

Wikipedia informs me that rhodonite is the official state gem of Massachusetts.  (I just looked up Illinois--we don't have a state gem, but the state mineral is fluorite.  I think that's an excellent choice.  But I digress.)  These particular rhodonite beads are a deep pink, with barely any of the black matrix common to most rhodonite.  They measure about 18mm from corner to corner.

I joined each bead with sterling silver wire, and finished with a Bali silver hook & eye clasp.  The finished length is 20.5 inches (can be worn shorter by hooking the clasp between two beads as shown), with a weight of 2.5 oz.

I made earrings to match.  The dangles are just over 1 inch long, and the French hooks, headpins, and 2.5mm beads are all sterling silver.  The earrings weight 0.2 oz.

Turquoise nugget bead-link necklace + earrings

My vendor tells me that this set of turquoise is from the Fox Mine in Nevada.  It is a beautiful robin's egg blue, traced with a light black matrix.  (You can see my other turquoise necklaces here, here, here, and here.)

The nuggets feel slightly waxy, and range in length from about 12 to 20mm.  I joined each with sterling silver wire, finishing with a Bali twisted silver S-clasp.

The length of the necklace is almost 22 1/4 inches (can be worn shorter, by hooking the clasp between two beads as shown), with a weight of 1.5 oz.

I made earrings to match.  I bought the large (8mm) sterling silver beads at the ends from the same vendor, but I can't remember from which country they were imported.  (They look Thai, but I wouldn't swear to it.)  Anyway, the French hooks, headpins, and 2.5mm silver beads are also sterling silver.  The finished length of each dangle is about 1 1/8 inches.  The earrings weigh 0.1 oz.
